Department of Business and Management

The Department of Business and Management applies an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and research in business, management and related fields. The faculty of the department holds degrees from leading institutions of higher education in Germany, Latvia, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States. The diverse academic and professional backgrounds of the faculty members are reflected in their research interests, which include economic anthropology, education, entrepreneurship, marketing, psychology and public administration.

The department’s teaching, training and research activities target and involve the SSE Riga B.Sc. and EMBA students, the SSE Riga Executive Education participants and the business community and public bodies in the Baltic countries and internationally.

The faculty plays an active role in Latvian public discussion within its fields of expertise through participation in various governmental working groups, as invited speakers and experts, and through media. The department is also involved in various national and international projects, giving the faculty members an opportunity to combine their knowledge of and experience with local and international developments.

Research is an integral part of the Department’s activities and several faculty members are also involved in the research activities of the TeliaSonera Institute at SSE Riga. Among the outlets for the department’s research are: refereed journals, books, the SSE Riga/BICEPS Research Papers, the SSE Riga/BICEPS Occasional Papers, and the TeliaSonera Institute Discussion Papers.

To further advance knowledge in department’s fields of specialization, the department organizes seminars and the Open Workshop Series in Business and Management Studies. The Open Workshop Series brings together locally and internationally recognized academics and practitioners to discuss research and its academic and societal implications.
