The TeliaSonera Institute

In January 2004 TeliaSonera endowed the TeliaSonera Professorship at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (SSE Riga) and at the same time the TeliaSonera Institute at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (TSI) was founded. The Institute is a think tank with the aim to promote and undertake high quality policy-oriented research in the fields of entrepreneurship, telecom and information technology as well as to promote entrepreneurship in Latvia.

To develop Latvia's research capacity within the field, the Institute supports young scholars. Research-wise the Institute closely cooperates with with the Baltic International Centre for Economic Policy Studies, BICEPS, in its research activities.

Business Days, Seminars and Conferences
To stimulate policy discussion, the Institute organizes the SSE Riga TeliaSonera Business Days focusing on policy-oriented issues. The themes of the Business Days have been: Venture Capital in Latvia; Entrepreneurship in Latvia; and Creative Industries.

In addition to the Business Days, the Institute organizes seminars for invited participants. The first Seminar was devoted to the New Regulatory Framework in the Telecom Sector with participants from the competition and regulatory authorities in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. For each Business Day or Seminar, TSI usually prepares a special report that is published in the TSI Discussion Paper Series.

In September 2004 TSI co-organized the Third International Conference on International Business in Transition: Entrepreneurship in Transition.

Global Entrepreneurship Monitor
The TeliaSonera Institute is responsible for Latvian participation in the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) that places Latvia's entrepreneurial activity in an international context.
