Financial company Capitalia in cooperation with Birojnīca (“café for work” in Riga) unveil the series of events “Birojnīcas padome” and will offer consulting on attracting finances. Juris Grišins, board member of SSE Riga Mentors Club, will individually consult each visitor on attracting finances to the projects or ideas.

Latvia still lags behind Estonia and Lithuania in competitiveness. The most comprehensive state competitiveness evaluation to date will answer to the reasons behind it and speak about the main factors influencing competitiveness. The evaluation is developed by the SSE Riga and the projected is headed by Christian H. M. Ketels of Harvard Business School in cooperation with BICEPS and Ernst & Young and commissioned by the State Chancellery of Latvia.

After assessing almost 500 business ideas, the experts of Peak Time 2011 selected 187 of them, which will continue competing for the victory in the second stage. It will be unveiled on September 13, and the authors of these perspective ideas will then attend training courses on business plans, marketing, financial and risk management and consult experts. 15 best ideas will compete in the finals.

The students can apply for the Armīns Rūsis tribute scholarship this year until September 29, and its total volume is around USD 34,000, with no more than 4,000 per student per academic year. Students from the University of Latvia, Riga Technical University, Latvian University of Agriculture, Rīga Stradiņa University, SSE Riga and Riga Graduate School of Law can apply for the scholarship, provided that they are active members of fraternities or sororities.

The largest business strategic competition in the world, Global Management Challenge, will now invite students to participate. The competition in Latvia will be held for the third time, and it is organized by O.D.A. company with cooperation with SSE Riga, Ernst & Young Baltic, airBaltic, Ir magazine and Lursoft. This competition allows improving business and management skills without real risks, with the main task being to manage to a virtual company. The winners of Latvian competition will receive the chance to compete in the global finals in Kiev.

While politicians prepare for elections with promises, there are some “resistance movements” in society, offering positive solutions for political problems as extinction of Latvians, poor education quality and lack of technological innovations. One of such groups is lead by a Swede Mats Kjaer, known as executive of Latvia’s SEB bank. Their plan is to replicate the Swedish success story and create a science park in Riga, called RIDEON, and it was presented to Roberts Ķīlis, then-head of Strategic Analysis Commissio. Long story short, the group now involves also heads of University of Latvia and Riga Technical University, and the project is supported by the SSE Riga.
