The round table discussion of the book by Latvian PM Valdis Dombrovskis and Anders Aslund, ”How Latvia Came through the Financial Crisis” includes Ilmārs Rimšēvics, governor of Bank of Latvia, SSE Riga guest lecturer Jeffrey Sommers, DnB Nord economics expert Pēteris Strautiņš and entrepreneur Jānis Bergs. Mr Sommers admits that much of information on the processes of internal devaluation in the book was news to him, but he does not agree with the acknowledgment of full public support to the reforms, as allegedly shown by elections, and reminds of the ongoing mass emigration from Latvia. He believes it is a political work and Aslud is far from being neutral politically. According to Sommers, Mr Aslund wanted to write about this crisis mostly because of what Gunnar Ljungdahl calls “political dimension of economic ideology”.
