Magazine Ir asks several people their opinion on the suggestion of economist Vjačeslavs Dombrovskis that English should be a second official language in Latvia. The idea is not met with enthusiasm. Diāna Kubasova, businesswoman and graduate of SSE Riga, says that although it would facilitate international integration and improve the level of education, it would also damage the Latvian language and culture.

This is the fifth year for the competition, and the judges have examined a total of more than 1800 business ideas. Although not all participants ultimately create their own companies, some have done it, and admit that the competition helped them understand that their idea is viable and able to compete in the market.

Some of the winning ideas of Peak Time have been implemented in a business, but others are still being improved. The competition is held for the fifth consecutive year and anyone with a unique, perspective idea can submit it to the competition by August 15. It is organized by Latvia’s Investment and development Agency together with School of Business Administration Turība and SEB banka. The finals are in November.
